Read "Blasphemy" by Douglas Preston. It is sort of a thriller, with a (fictional) unique religion vs. science debate as the backstory. The main character is an FBI agent who must win the trust of a team of scientists in Arizona, but early on the plot thickens. I also like the author because of the way he writes, with most of the chapters whizzing between characters, protagonist o antagonist. "Blasphemy" is just overall well written and intriguing. I recommend it to anyone looking for fictional summer reading.
There are many good books to read for the independent project comming near. A book that I came across that i happened to like was Jodi Picoults "handle with care". It is a realistic fiction novel that involves a good combination of law and medicine. One of the main characters was born with a rare genetic disease which leads her mother trying to sue her doctor for a wrongful birth lawsuit. This leads to complications between the family and the doctor because she was a good friend to the mother before this happened. This is an overall good book and has a plot that keeps the readers interest the whole time. This book has similair ideas in it to Jodi Picoults other novels. I would recommend this book for a project because it grasps readers attention very quickly and has a lot to write a review about.
I recommend reading "The Secret Life of Bees". However, this book would be ideal for a girl because it is about a fourteen year old girl without a mother. She has been told her whole life by her abusive father that she killed her mother when she was four years old. When Lily hears her "calling" she runs off with her maid Rosaleen in search of her mother's past but ends up discovering the trie meaning of family.
I remeber i read a book in the 8th grade called "The Journal Of Patrick Seamus Flaherty part of the dear america series. i really like this book becuase it really shows the troubles and hardships that soldiers faced during the vietnam war. It shows how men come together from al corners of the united states to fight for one cause, its a first person view of life in the war and it is true, unfortunatly it is true so there are the tragic deaths of loved ones. but i think it can teach us all a story that we should not take anyone for granted, and also it teaches us about what the war is actually like, where it is not sugar coated and made to sound good. another reason that i found this book interesting was that there was not a happy endind like possibly every other book in the world, so this made the book one of a kind for me.
There are many great books I have read, however there is that definitely stands out. It is called the "Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. It is a series that takes place in the future, where there is a game created in which 24 kids are chosen and they must kill eachother for the wealthy peoples' entertainment. At first, the book sounded a little weird to me, but as soon as I started to read it I couldn't put the book down. It's a pretty popular book for many good reasons; it's entertaining, a great read, and also teaches a lot of important lessons. It is one of my all-time favorite books.
The book that I am reading for my book report is lies by Michael grant however it is the third in the series and the first one is called Gone. The story is taken place on Perdido beach in California where Sam, a 14 year old boy is in World history class when suddenley everyone over the age of 15 dissapears. As the story eveloves it turns into a mix of Lord of the flies and X-Men. The kids of Perdido beach soon find out that they are trapped in a place they call the fayz and its basically a big bubble that trapps them from whatever on the outside. It a battle against the strong and the week and animals are mutating and kids are developing powerd that turn normal against freak in a long but satifying book. It has a touch of Romance in a kind of that end of the World feeling. With Good Vs. evil and the quest for government and order in the Fayze. Oh and one more things when you turn 15 you dissapear too.
This series by Michael Grant is composed of (at least now) 3 books
-Gone
-Hunger
-Lies
*Like Twight? their is a good chance you will like this too. Everyone I have recommened this book to has enjoyed it
-Also is becoming a Tv show (or Movie) in the near future.
A good book to read would be “A tale of Two Cities” because it is an interesting book about the French Revolution. It talks about how French peasantry demoralized by the French Aristocracy came to revolt against the government. The book follows the lives of several protagonists such as Charles Darnay, an aristocrat who falls in love with a peasent. This is an interesting story and is a good book to read.
I would recommend that almost everyone should read the book "hunger games". This was another book hat I read in one day. It was a real page turner and the author knows just how to keep you interested. The main plot of the book is that there are 16 or so districts and all of them tried to gang up on one of the more powerful districts. The powerful district won the war and as to show that no one should ever try an uprising ever again they hold something called the Hunger games every year. Each district has to send two kids that are randomly selected or volunteer to these games. These games are broadcast everywhere and shown to everyone as if it were some great sporting event. The kids are giving about two weeks of training and then they are sent into the arena. From then on it is a last person standing all out battle. There can only be one winner and who knows what surprises the Creators of the game have in store for the contestants. This book was one of the best books I have ever read and it has a sequel "catching fire" which was also good.I would definitely recommend that you read this book.
