Style/Type Affects Message

We discussed how the style and type of poem affects its meaning. Sonnets are usually about love; limericks are often about humorous subjects. Share what style or type of poetry your song is, and how it affects the song’s central message or theme.

My poem/ song is called turn turn turn by the
Byrds. After some thought, I decided that my poem is a lyrirical poem. The song talks about how there's a time for one thing and a time for another. The poem especially talks about how there's a time for one emotion and a time for another. For example, "A time for love a time for hate". The song also talks about how you may like a time at one point. Then you may hate a time at another point. "A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing". What I love about this song is that the message is so true. Although as the song says at the end, there's always a time and it's never too late for peace.

My poem, Welcome To My Life, is sung by Simple Plan. This poem is a lyrical poem that is very forward. It was not truly intended to have a deeper meaning. It talks about all the troubles and problems a teenager feels no one understands. "To be hurt, to feel lost, to be left out in the dark..." is a statement sharing how a teenager feels to be in this world. "No you don't know what it's like, Welcome to my life" is a statement where the teenager does not feel like anyone understands. In this song all this teenager wants, what any teenager would want, is to be understood by someone else.

The song that I am doing for my project is Kids by MGMT. I believe that this song is a lyrical poem, as are many songs. The general message is that childhood and laid back behavior should be preserved and cherished. The general message of the song could be portrayed in a different form of poem, such as a ballad. The way that the message is shared is exclusive to a lyrical poem, however. In another type of poem the theme wouldn't be expressed the same way. Kids is a lyrical poem.

The song that I am doing for the poetry essay/project is called Viva la Vida, by Coldplay. It took me awhile to figure out what style of poem this song would fall under, but finally I have concluded that it is a ballad. This song is a ballad, because it sort of tells a story. This form of poetry affects the theme of the song, because, in the form of telling a story, it gives examples of what the theme is trying to say. It seems to me that the central message of this song is that people can seem mighty or powerful, when in truth that is just a lie and they are not at all. This is shown in the song in the line :"One minute I held the key, next the walls were closed on me." This is just one of the examples that the song gives to help explain it's main theme. If this song was not styled as a ballad and did not give examples by telling a story, it would affect the poem, because it would be very difficult to figure out what the central message is trying to say.

The song I am doing for my project is "Therapy" by All Time Low. This poem is known as an elegry because it is about the death of a close relative and how someone is trying to deal with the loss. Having a poem that is considered an elegry affects the song's central theme because it sets the mood for the listeners. Because my song is about the death of a person, the mood of the song is dark and depressing. An elegry also affects the message of a poem. By having a slow song about sorrow, listeners not only pay close attention, but also feel what the singer is feeling as well.

The song i am doing for my project is waiting on the world to change by john mayer. After thinking about what type of song it is, i realized it is a mix of two. It is a ballad because it tells a story of what could happen with the world and what has. It is also part lryical because it is a motivating song and could evoke someone emotionally. overall, this song has a good meaning to it and can be well-interpreted.

I have thought about it for a while and I have decideD that based on my analysis the category of poetry my song, Human By The Killers, would best fit in to is a Sonnet. Not so much for the love aspect of a sonnet, but for the strong interior conflict and the short story that it tells. Without giving away much of the full analysis of the song, in short, it is about a someone who is dying and his deep contemplation about whether or not we are human or dancer. "Are we human or are we dancer?""My sign is Vital-My hands are cold."

The song i chose for my project is called Love Minus Zero/No limit by Bob Dylan. My song/poem would definitely be a sonnet because it's entirely about love. Although it is a love song, it's not like all other love songs in that some of the images that it creates do not have to do directly with love and that it presents the love object in a very realistic way. For example, the song states, "My love she speaks like silence". Unlike most representations of love, Bob Dylan emphasizes that the value of silence and that not saying much can in fact mean a lot.

The song that I chose for the song project was a song named Follow. The type of poetry that it is is an adventurous poem. This affects the song's central theme or message by portraying the songwriter's happiness with staying with someone else by using descriptive examples and places, such as a grassy field or an exciting day.

i think the song that i did was a lyrical poem, it just adresses current problems and how they are being over looked. i think the black eyed pease wrote the song where is the love to say something to to public about isses and i think it doesnt relate to love at all. i think that the style is very pop almost so it is directed to that population that can make a difference in the world, and it teaches the young children to not just be a passer by. i feel that the style of this song really makes it shine out from the others

The style of a poem affects its meaning. For the song Life After you by Daughtry, I think that it is a lyrical poem and a ballad. A lyrical poem usually talks about love or emotions. This song is about a man who is trying to make up with his girlfriend after they had a fight. The lyrics talk about how he really loves her and that he does not want to fight with her anymore. I also believe that this song could be a ballad. The song is about a man who had a fight with his girlfriend and that he wants her back. Throughout the whole song, he talks about how he wants to go back home to her and say that he was sorry and they are meant to be. It tells the story of how they fought and how they will get back together.

My song is called You Get What You Give which is mainly about life and how you should always give back to prosper in the end. This song however has a very general meaning in that you should cherish everything in your life and make sure you give back before it ends. This kind of song doesnt really have a style of poem, because it doesnt define any type of story or anything, but it has a strong maessage and this makes the song the way it is.
